Ensor, 2 single beds
Ensor is our somewhat smaller but very cosy room. This room will only be let in combination with Magritte as a sort of family room. There is a connecting door between both rooms, both each room has its own seperate entrance as well.
Ensor is equipped with 2 single beds (90mx200m), which can be connected into a double bed. Furthermore, you find a washin-bassin, as well as a closed toilet space and a spacious closet. Ensor has its own private shower space on the ground floor, or the shower facilities in the connected Magritte can be used.
James Ensor
James Ensor (1860-1949) was a Belgian painter with a British father. He lived in Ostend where his mother ran a souvenirs shop. She was selling, among other things, masks. He is considered the most important innovator of modern art in Belgium, but his works do not belong to one particular art direction. He is often considered as part of the symbolism movement. After the art world had repeatedly rejected him, he fought against “the establishment”, by means of his work. The use of masks, skeletons, death and transvestites became a distinct characteristic of his paintings.Several works can be seen in MU.zee in Ostend (www.muzee.be).A visit to his home as well as an Ensor walk through Ostend is recommended .(www.ensorstad.be).
